What is Yoga Therapy?

As I am finishing the foundations program for my yoga therapy training through Breathing Deeply Yoga, I am often asked what yoga therapy is and how is it different from taking a yoga class? Yoga therapy is where the yoga therapist (like myself) teaches individuals with chronic pain, chronic illness or mental health conditions yogic philosophy, physical postures, breath work and meditation to help them ease suffering in the body and mind and it is tailored to each person’s individual needs. When taking a yoga class, the teacher may incorporate all of the above, but in a general sense.

Attending a yoga class, you will notice that the teacher cannot possibly offer a sequence that meets everyone’s specific needs. If you are dealing with a chronic condition, yoga therapy is an excellent choice because you are learning to ease your own suffering through various yoga practices that the yoga therapist believes will work best for your condition.

If this description of what yoga therapy is has caught your attention, feel free to email me at back2yourbodyyoga@gmail.com to be added to my list of upcoming yoga therapy clients for when I begin my practicum hours this summer. During this time of learning for me, all sessions are free of charge.
